I enclose a copy of a letter and enclosure from

Hong Kong dated the 4th of March regarding a proposal to

erect a statue of His Majesty King George VI, We have

written to Sir William Reid Dick asking him if he would be

willing to undertake the work, and I now enclose a copy of

his reply of the 27th of March. You will note that his

estimate is £10,000 against the Colonial estimate of the

order of £2,000.

In the circumstances we propose to ask Mr. Gilbert

Ledward, R.A. who is at present doing two statues of His

late Majesty for East Africa for an estimate and we shall

be glad to know if you concur with this proposal.
